Ctizen engagement workshops

Integrated into the very core of their mission,

accredited zoos deploy a wide range of tools to raise awareness and educate the public about the challenges of conserving endangered species, encouraging people to take action.

But these initiatives extend far beyond the walls of zoological institutions: citizens from various communities are also called upon to contribute! It is by coming together and mobilizing collectively that real change can begin.

Veterinarians, biologists, and animal care technicians—our professionals have been dedicated to the protection and well-being of animal species for over 70 years. The expertise they’ve developed over time is increasingly sought after by various public and private organizations, both for knowledge sharing and to benefit from their specialized skills.

Whether it's delivering a lecture, developing a training program, guiding partners in acquiring new competencies, or supporting conservation and enhancement initiatives, the experts at the Zoo de Granby are always ready to collaborate on projects that promote animal welfare and species conservation.

Connecting with the community

To maximize the impact of the conservation efforts led by our biologists in the field, public awareness and citizen involvement are essential. To engage communities, our experts go directly to meet them—through door-to-door outreach, town hall meetings, distribution of informational materials, public booths, and more.

Every action counts, and everyone has a role to play in preserving biodiversity, starting right in their own backyard! Raising awareness about the endangered species living near our communities and how we can help them is the mission our dedicated biologists have taken on.

Connecting with the business community

Tree trimmers, chimney sweeps, pest control managers, farmers—many trades interact with wildlife and plant life on a daily basis and can influence animal populations and their habitats. Trained and made aware by our experts on how to handle specific situations—such as a bat colony in an attic or chimney swifts nesting in a flue—these professionals can make a real difference. They become partners and valuable allies in the protection of endangered species.

Making your backyard greener

Planting native flowers, leaving a patch of lawn to grow wild, encouraging the growth of native trees and shrubs, or sowing milkweed for monarch butterflies: creating a welcoming refuge for wildlife right in your backyard is easy. Pollinators, insect-eating birds, and microfauna will thank you for it!

Head for cover!

Just like us, wildlife needs a place to take shelter—whether to hide, lay eggs, or raise their young. By leaving stumps and dead trees in place, a wide variety of insects, amphibians, birds, and mammals can find what they need. Artificial shelters, such as roosting boxes, can also provide valuable support for many animal species.

Helping pollinisators

Pollinators are essential to our ecosystems—they play a crucial role in plant reproduction and, by extension, in food production! Unfortunately, their populations are in decline. Planting wildflowers and eliminating the use of pesticides directly helps pollinators carry out their vital mission.

To respect = to preserve

Natural areas are beautiful spaces that are perfect for a peaceful walk—all it takes is following a few simple rules to enjoy them even more! Staying on designated trails, for example, helps reduce our impact on local wildlife and plant life. Ensuring the long-term health of our natural environments is a responsibility we all share!
