As a conservation organization, the Zoo works daily to protect endangered species, which represent more than 25 % of the animals in its care. Breeding programs in zoological settings aim to maintain viable and genetically diverse populations, with the ultimate goal of ensuring species survival.
On site, you will also find the LabNature, which houses one of the few bat sanctuaries in Québec. This facility provides shelter and care for bats disturbed during their hibernation. It is also home to the turtle nursery, where these threatened reptiles benefit from protected incubation before being released back into the wild.
Our team of conservation professionals is driven by a deep commitment to protecting animal species and their habitats. In Quebec, they are actively involved in enhancing urban natural spaces, conducting population monitoring and inventories, and providing training and guidance to help minimize the impact of human activities on our biodiversity.
Internationally, they work directly with numerous partners to understand the threats facing wildlife and to implement effective, long-term protection measures. The Zoo de Granby also contributes financially to support a wide range of conservation projects around the globe.
